Kyowa Hakko U.S.A., a subsidiary of Kyowa Hakko Kogyo, presented a clinical trial at a SupplySide East VendorWorks seminar in Baltimore, MD, Friday, May 7, that used SoyScience, a soy protein/phospholipid complex system, showing patients with high cholesterol taking 3g of SoyScience daily (Biosci.Biotechnol.Biochem., 65(1), 72-78, 2001), had their blood cholesterol (total and LDL) return to normal levels. The study information was presented by Yoichiro Sugimura, Japanfs leading expert on soy peptides. Sugimura noted that a study at Gifu University and Tokushima University in Japan, also suggested that SoyScience helps promote healthy cholesterol levels within normal range. Sugimura reviewed the molecular structure of soy protein, function of soy protein hydrolysate/enzymatic-modified lecithin complex, protein and lipid binding mechanisms of soy protein and soy phospholipids, and SoyScience clinical, safety and stability studies. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), considers SoyScience as Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS).
